The Pencil is Mightier than the Pen
From Omar Khayyam to Edward FitzGerald to us: “The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,/Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit/Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,/Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.” But the Finger is indelible, and so is the Pen. The Pencil?
The Moving Pencil, lured by misdirection,
Need not move on through doom or predilection:
The aft end offers quick and easy means
To quickly turn back time and make correction.
My favorite pencil to use is the Dixon Ticonderoga Black #2.
A lovely sketch that goes hand in hand with the poetic post.
The mighty pencil!
I usually use from B thru 9B for sketches and artworks.
If you care for an example:

it heavily uses 5B
Thanks very much! As fate would have it, just yesterday I bought myself a 5B. Hard to control, but you gotta love the dark!
Your welcome …
Yes, If one is used to to the lighter of the darks, then 5B feel alien in the hand….. But I find it fascinating for both the lighter and darker of the shades…. It leaves a grainy texture when given a light pressure that HB series does not…
That’s a fine drawing you have there, friend!
Haha, many thanks friend. It is the third or fourth of my drawings/sketches that used the B-series heavily. Since sketches of mine looked better in low lighting than daylight- so I though, why not make them darker. 😉
Also, in that sketch you can see the graininess in her cheeks and some of it in the hair. That’s made with 5B + 3B
